RE: Audible battery alarm?

Why not put it on a timer? My fiver is plugged in through a timer that's on one hour a day. I even have a night light showing through the trailer window so I can check it (between 10 and 11 PM) to make sure that the timer has actually kicked in (my GFCI circuit once kicked out, and I didn't notice it for a month). I can see the night light though my kitchen window. This has worked well for me for the last half dozen years.

Sure doesn't look normal to me!! If it is..., then my roof (with no bubbles at the edges) is abnormal!

RE: shower faucet

It's a cheap valve affair that doesn't seal off the water very well. We have had the same system in a number of trailers. We have a plastic clothespin that we slip over the stem of the lever to hold it up while showering. The water that runs out after the shower is minimal.. it's just the water that remains in the hose to the shower head.. but the clothespin trick does save a lot of dribbling through the valve while showering. It's worth a try!

RE: Day/Nite shade removal - Pace Arrow Vision

Pull the shade down. There should be 2 or 3 screws through the shade "frame" at the top. You will likely need a flashlight to see the screws. They should be on the inside of the living area. You probably will not need to remove the valance to drop the shade down.

RE: erratic brake controller

Did the dealer pull the wires out of the axles? If not.. have them pulled and checked. I've had two trailers where the wires inside the axles were so worn that the wires shorted inside the axles. This causes intermittant hard braking and while adjusting the controller to counteract the hard braking I ended up with too little or too much power going to the brake magnets. When I pulled out the wires (which were inside the axles) it was hard to spot the areas where the wires were shorting but once you spot the bare wires you know what's been happening. On my current trailer when my wires shorted out I immediately knew what the problem was since I had experienced it before. It happened when we were on the other side of the country (Dawson Creek) and I took a day off from travelling, pulled the wires out of the axles at the local campground, saw the exposed wires, fished them through clear plastic tubing, caulked the ends of the tubing where the wires went in and strapped them to the back of the axles with cable ties. I have not had a problem since. When reconnecting the wires (with marr connectors) I also caulked the marr connectors to prevent water entry and that has worked well also. This may not be your problem but it is a hard one to rule out if you haven't pulled the wires out of the axles!

RE: tricks on making bed in 5th wheeler

We do it to-gether. As you probably know, it's a bit difficult to do it by yourself. We find that getting on your knees beside the bed is easiest. I'm 6' tall and standing up in our mid height Cougar is just not an option. But I would be interested in finding other ways to do it... short of letting the DW do it by herself! :W

RE: Propane detector

We had ours go off one morning at 6 AM. We were asleep before that beeping sound started. Ever try turning one off at 6 AM when there is no switch? I vacuumed it out and then blew air through it and it's been fine since. Something obviously set it off but it wasn't propane?! I now have a switch so I don't have to rip out the wires!
Mine is on it's own private fuse, so was easy to silence it. Did you just vacuum it in place, or remove it and open it up?
Hi BlackSilver. I took it off the wall, opened the case and vacuumed it out and then blew it out as well. Then I installed a little switch right on the case so that if it happens again.. (and it did once in the last year) I can just switch it off while I check things out and turn it back on when I'm satisfied all is well.

RE: Electricity Power Posts in Ontario Provincial Parks

Like "Jack_Dianne_Freedom" I too have extra power cords that let me get to the post with no problems. It can be a long reach sometimes.. in the bushes.. but I have yet to see one that someone has run into and broken (which I have done in another park myself):E :(
So it should significantly reduce maintenance costs!
What I really like is that (unlike many other parks) there is no meter to read OR pay for.. you can use as much or as little power as you like and you never need to pay for it separately!

RE: Purchased a fifth wheel. Need help selecting tow vehicle.

Ditto what "old guy" said. Mine is a gasser and if I were pulling another 4000 lbs (more than I am currently pulling) I would not be using my 6 litre gasser!

RE: battery charging 24/7

I have a timer on mine. It goes on 1 hour per day to keep the batteries charged. This way they stay topped up and I only check the water levels once every month or so. If I leave it on full time it does tend to dry out the batteries much sooner, and I don't want to be checking the water levels every week.

RE: What does everyone do during normal days?

Hi Bob,
I just turned 65 and have been retired for over 6 years. When I am at home (I have a house with a yard) I spend a lot of time outside just keeping the place spiffy.. cutting grass, looking after flower beds, etc. I also do my own vehicle repairs.. changing oil, brake pads, re-packing trailer bearings, etc. I have a basement workshop where I repair just about anything that gets broken (including stuff from the granchildren). I help out the neighbours whenever someone needs a small project done etc. I'm also into digital photography so I spend some time on the computer with that. When I'm RVing (about 4-5 months of the year) I think of mods to make to the trailer and then work on those when I'm not out fishing or doing other important stuff like sightseeing etc. I can honestly say that I have never been bored and if I get to the point where I've finishing something, I can always find another thing that needs to be done. If you want a project.. I'm currently looking for someone to wax my fiver!!! :B

RE: Water in RV

If there is water on the roof of my slide I will lower the front of the trailer to drain the roof before retracting the slide. I learned that the first time I had water up there and it ended up in my carpet. Never had a problem since.

RE: refridgerator problem ?

On all the trailers I have had over the years, they all restarted automatically once the power came back on. The trailer I have now automatically switches to propane when the power goes out, and then automatically switches back to electrical operation when the power is restored.

RE: Backing Up

would having a straight hitch instead of a needed drop hitch have anything to do with a thrust angle problem and dog tracking? No. It would make no difference.

RE: need advice on adding leveling jacks

While travelling, I once needed to repair a trailer hitch by having it re-welded to the frame. When the welder raised the car he said he smelled gasoline... and he did!! The gas tank had a pinhole leak near the top so as long as it was not filled it would only leak when the gas was sloshing around in the tank. His solution... he had a large floor fan which he placed 10 feet away from the work and when he turned it on he had to put on a tight cap to keep his hair from blowing into his face. No fumes, no problem!!:E Mind you I'm not advocating that you do the same. Like they say in the commercials... "professional welder at work...." don't try this at home!!:S
